Frequently Asked Questions
🧁 About YOMO
What is YOMO?
YOMO is gluten-free wholefood that delivers on taste and texture. We love helping you bake for yourself and your loved ones. We also provide a few on-the-go snacks because while fresh is always best, we know that some weeks are just crazy! All our products are free from gluten free and contain no soy, dairy, egg, corn, rice or additives. Our mixes are Coeliac Australia-endorsed and designed to be flexible so you can customise them to your dietary needs.
What makes YOMO different from other gluten-free baking mixes?
Most gluten-free mixes contain gums, preservatives, and additives—but not YOMO! We use real ingredients for a homemade-from-scratch taste with the convenience of a mix. Our products are almond meal based which means they have a superior taste and texture. Plus, our products are versatile - one mix can create multiple recipes.
Are your products made in Australia?
Yes! They are made in Kensington, Victoria. We also source Australian ingredients where possible. Our flaxseed, almond, pecan, banana flour and salt are all Australian.
Are your mixes really delicious?
If you're asking this question, you're in the right place. We are focussed on creating gluten free food that is ACTUALLY delicious. Not delicious... for gluten free food. Not delicious... for something healthier than usual. Just delicious. We make food that non-gluten-free people want in on - and that's really important to us, because food is for sharing.
🌱 Ingredients & Dietary Information
Are YOMO products Coeliac-safe?
Yes! All our products are made at our gluten free facility in Kensington in Victoria. Our baking mix range is also endorsed by Coeliac Australia. Our ready-made cookie products – while not yet endorsed – are made to the same standards at our gluten free facility and are also 100% gluten free. We are meticulous about sourcing the best and most reliable ingredients to go into our premium products.
Are your baking mixes vegan?
Yes! All our products are vegan and gluten free. While we offer customers options for how to make their baking mix, the plant power options are always the recipes we perfect first. With YOMO, vegan is NEVER an afterthought. When you use a YOMO gluten free baking mix, you will never have to add flax eggs or egg replacer, and it will always be delicious.
Are your products nut-free?
All of our products contain Australian almond meal and some products contain Australian pecans. Because pecans are processed externally with walnuts and macadamias, we have a cross contamination warning for these nuts as a precautionary measure on all our products. We take allergens very seriously - please email us if you need further information or clarification.
Why are most of your mixes and products almond based?
Almonds are an extremely nutritious nut! They contain calcium, vitamin E, iron, magnesium, manganese and are a good source of both fibre and protein. They also contain good fats that your body needs. The protein, fibre and good fat also makes them very satisfying for hungry people. Most importantly, almond meal has amazing taste and texture so these gluten free goodies are loved by everyone.
Do YOMO products contain soy?
No! We do not use soy or any soy derivatives (like lecithin) in any of our products.
What allergens are YOMO mixes free from?
All YOMO products are free from gluten, soy, peanut, egg, dairy, lupin, sesame seed, fish and shell fish. Our products also contain no rice or corn, and neither of these ingredients are processed at our facility.
Are your products organic?
We use Australian and organic ingredients in our gluten free baking mixes and ready-made products. We use organic coconut flour, organic coconut chips, organic desiccated coconut, organic tapioca, organic chocolate and choc chips, organic coconut sugar and organic cacao. While our almonds are not organic, our almond meal comes from blanched almonds which means the skin is removed – this is where the majority of pesticides are found.
Do you use Indonesian coconut sugar?
No! There are often trace amounts of gluten found in Indonesian coconut sugar – we know this because we have spoken to many suppliers and tested their products multiple times. Indonesian coconut sugar is the most widely distributed coconut sugar in Australia. We have sourced from the Phillipines in the past and currently source beautiful organic coconut sugar from Sri Lanka that is 100% gluten free. You can buy our coconut sugar for your gluten free home baking as well.
Are your products FODMAP friendly?
We have conducted testing on our original baking range and they have passed. Maximum low FODMAP serving sizes are below. If you are on a strict low FODMAP diet, we recommend avoiding our burger buns or alternatively starting with half a bun and seeing how your system responds – this is due to the proportionally high amount of almond, flaxseed and psyllium in the mix.
ANZAC - 64g - 4 ANZAC biscuits
Banana Bread - 140g - 2 slices of Banana Bread
Choc muffin - 50g - 1 Choc Muffin
Choc Chip - 72g - 4 biscuits or 2 brownies or blondies. If making blondies, you will need to use peanut butter or almond butter to keep it FODMAP friendly, not cashew butter.
Do your products contain corn?
No. There is no corn, corn starch or corn derivatives used in any of our products. While there is an option to add your own corn starch to some of our recipes, we never put it in our mix or products. So many gluten free products are full of corn so in the interest of dietary diversity and choice, we’ll let you decide whether to put it in.
Why don’t you use rice in your products?
So many reasons. Firstly, rice is ubiquitous in the gluten free diet - we think it’s important to provide nutritional diversity.
Secondly, when you’re aiming for delicious taste and superior texture, what you leave out is as important as what you put in. We pride ourselves on the texture of our baked goods and rice flour just doesn’t cut it for us.
Thirdly, we have a family member with a rice allergy and we know what a struggle it’s been to find products that are both rice free and gluten free.
Lastly, there is a very serious condition called FPIES (Food Protein Induced Enderocolitis Syndrome) in which rice is often a key allergen. While this condition effects a small number of people, it’s our mission to make life better for people with tricky dietary requirements so we want to help wherever we can!
